‘We’re excited’ | Beltonian Theatre set to close sale in March

February 25, 2026

The historic Beltonian Theatre, a cultural hub in downtown Belton, is entering a new era with local buyers committed to preserving its legacy.

BELTON, Texas — A new chapter is approaching for one of downtown Belton’s most recognizable landmarks.

The Beltonian Theatre, a 102-year-old movie theatre that has become a hub for films, live events and community gatherings, is now under contract and expected to close next month.

The property has been on the market for just over a year. Current owner Zechariah Baker, who purchased the theater in 2017 and spent years restoring and modernizing the venue, said a family move prompted the decision to sell.

“My wife accepted a position down here in Corpus Christi, and it was my turn to be a dutiful husband and to move down and support her, and so it was just time for the next chapter in our life,” Baker said.

While the buyers have not yet been publicly identified, Baker said he is encouraged about the theater’s future.

“I’m excited that it’s a local Central Texas family that’s purchasing the theater,” he said.

The theater has seen steady growth in recent years, including expanded movie showings, private rentals and special events. The current owners have already scheduled films and programming into the year and plan to assist with the transition after closing.

Blake Lufburrow, a realtor with Two Lakes Homes Real Estate who represents the seller, said finding the right buyer was a priority.

“That was something that was really important to the current owner — to find somebody that could continue what he had built, not only a theater but a community landmark and something that a lot of folks enjoyed,” Lufburrow said.

Lufburrow said the buyers intend to keep the building operating as a movie theater.

“They do plan to keep it as a movie theater,” he said, adding the venue reflects Belton’s family-oriented character. “It established itself as a really unique business in town.”

Despite the ownership change, programming is expected to continue uninterrupted. Baker said the upcoming calendar of films and events is already mapped out.

“We are in constant communication. They’ve got the rest of the year planned out and they’re just raring to go and to open back up as soon as possible,” Baker said.

Lufburrow noted preserving the theater is significant as independent cinemas across the country face declining attendance.

“Movie theaters in general are not as popular as they used to be, so to have somebody take that on as a passion project and make it something that impacts the community is really impressive and important,” Lufburrow said.

Over the past eight years, the owners upgraded the facility with a modern projector, improved sound system, building repairs and interior improvements while maintaining its historic character.

The theater was listed at approximately $700,000.

Baker encouraged residents to follow the Beltonian Theatre’s social media pages for updates as the transition moves forward.
